"Giving Back" While You Travel

We offer a successful community development project that gives ecotourists a chance to provide help to a very rural village in northern Belize called, Indian Church. Thus far this niche in the travel industry has worked very well (although many other operators are also doing this now, but this too sometimes is simply donations and not concrete programs and tangible projects).

Where can i get more info on your ptroject?
I'm thinking of a project to help a little portuguese village gain life and reorganize itself again and was thinking about various projects.
One of them is to try change food for work. The idea is more or less the following:
Use an existing geriatic organization so i can provide some ancient, natural and organic meals done by village granny's and the tourists who helped cleaning the village forest, do some painting or even just play cards with the elders, etc, could enjoy those traditional dishes for free.

My company Countrystyle developed a voluntary tourism marketing name for encouraging visitors to get involved in a community project of their choice while on vacation which we market as "pick a project' while on vacation and 'adopt a village' while on vacation - this has attracted many visitors to include projects in their 7 and 10 day itineraries and there is no doubt that our bookings have increased as a result of this voluntary tourism focus!

Greetings...this is Matt Grayson with the National Tour Association. We've been working with the National Park Service to develop a voluntourism pilot program, whereby tour operators could select NPS sites with which to develop voluntourism projects for groups. We've been surprised that the uptake by tour operators wasn't nearly what we thought it would be...more parks are interested in the program than tour operators. Have any of the other organizations found tour operator reluctant to embrace voluntourism?

Thanks for the feedback! Most of our tour operators package for seniors and near-seniors, so it just may be that our operators are finding it difficult to market this new opportunity to their base clientele.
